Cryin For Mercy Lyrics

1  HONEY BEE BLUES

By Steven Elwyn Smith and Paul David Painter
Honeybee
Got the sweetest comb around
Honeybee
Got the sweetest comb around
You’ve been chased around the hive
By every bee in town
Honeybee
I’m gonna buzz you right
Honeybee
I’m gonna buzz you right
I’m gonna stir your nectar baby
Till you get satisfied
I’m your bumblebee baby
Satisfaction guaranteed
I’m gonna keep you happy
Give you all the buzz you need
I’m not like those other bees
Swarming round your hive
Always on the prowl
Stinging every Queen they find
Honeybee
Won’t sting no one but you
Honeybee
Won’t sting no one but you
I got a stinger full of dynamite baby
Need you to light my fuse
Honeybee, my sweet honeybee
My, my my Honeybee
My sweet Honeybee

2  CHANTEY MON CHER

By Steven Elwyn Smith
I’m a poor little Johnny
From the Big Mamou
My love is real, my aim is true
When Mon Cher sings
It set’s me free
She lifts me up
When she dance with me
That dark eyed girl
Can sing and dance
Oh what a night
Come on Cherie, let’s take a chance
I’m just a boy
From the Big Mamou
Mon Cher, for true
I’ll take care of you
She’s the flower of the Pontchartrain
For true, for sure, she will wear my ring
I go tonight, to the big soiree
Chantey Mon Cher and take my blues away
Chantey Mon Cher,
Chantey Mon Cher,
When that girl smiles the boys go wild
The Bayou rocks like a hurricane
I’m no couyon,
Make no mistake
Gonna marry that girl
My Madame to make
Oh Saturday night, At the Fais do do
Find paradise Mon Cher
When we go go
She’s the flower of the Pontchartrain
For true, for sure, she will wear my ring
I go tonight, to the big soiree
Chantey Mon Cher and take my blues away
Chantey Mon Cher,
Chantey
When that girl smiles the boys go wild
The Bayou rocks like a hurricane

3  ONE TURN DESERVES ANOTHER

By Steven Elwyn Smith
Take one heart and then another
You get back what you give my brother
Leave them crying, filled with shame
Slither on back home again
You practice catch and release
They love you till they see the beast
Chiseled looks and chiseled heart
You never finish what you start
One turn deserves another
What goes around comes round my brother
What goes up must come down
Payback time in this payback town
You got your perfect house, your perfect car
Do you even know who you are?
Your world is comfort, speed and lies
You’ve never had to compromise
People are expendable
Send them where they’ve been before
The faceless masses know the way
Make em holler, make em pay
One turn deserves another
What goes around comes round my brother
What goes up must come down
Payback time in this payback town
Why can’t we take care of each other?
How much money do you need my brother?
Walk a mile in a poor man shoes
Understand what you got to lose
One turn, one turn, one turn
Deserves another
One turn, one turn, one turn
Deserves another
One turn, one turn, one turn
Deserves another
One turn, one turn, one turn
Deserves another
Those you’ve abused will be around
To see you on you’re way back down

4  MAMA LIKES

By Steven Elwyn Smith
Mama’s got stories to tell
She’ll talk about heaven, cause she’s been through hell
She talks about the time she spent in jail
Mama’s got stories to tell
Mama likes to make me sweat
She work it to the right, she work it to the left
I’m up all night, I got no regrets
Mama makes me sweat
I like what Mama likes
I like what Mama likes
With Mama there’s no wrong just right
I like what Mama likes
Mama likes to hear me sing
It makes her jump, it makes her swing
She yells, “Come on Stevie do yo thang”
Mama likes to hear me sing
I like what Mama likes
I like what Mama likes
With Mama there’s no wrong just right
I like what Mama likes…

5  THAT’S HOW THEY ROLL

By Steven Elwyn Smith, Paul David Painter, Doug Ritter, Rick Salvador
See the man on the street in the white Cadillac
Give him some money; he’ll bring you love back
Turn on the TV, see the talking head
Trying to convince you that you’re better off dead
That’s how they roll, that’s how they roll
It ain’t nothing new, it’s what they do
That’s how they roll
See the bald-headed fat cat, smoking a fine cigar
Sell him your soul and he’ll make you a star
He’ll make you think he’s your only friend
Until he says boy you won’t work in this town again
That’s how they roll, that’s how they roll
It’s in their DNA, what they do not what they say
That’s how they roll
See the band on the stage, they’ve got a whole lot of soul
Everything they’ve got goes into the show
Take a piece of their heart it’s all for you
They give it up when they play the blues
The preacher on Sunday goes on and on
Telling everybody all the things they’ve done wrong
You’re going to hell boy; this old world’s gonna end
Give me your money, I’ll forgive all your sins
That’s how they roll, that’s how they roll
It’s in their DNA, what they do not what they say
That’s how they roll
It ain’t nothing new, it’s what they do
That’s how they roll

6  BACKROADS

By Steve Canaday
Well I sleep like a feather
I don’t worry ‘bout the weather
I take backroads, wherever I go
And I can’t take no chances
‘cause I sure ain’t got no answers
I take the backroads, wherever I go
Those four-lane freeways ain’t got nothin’ for me
Just gimme a six pack and a ‘50 Mercury
And I’ll be rollin’
Over them backroads of my home
Over them backroads of my home
Well I don’t let things get risky
‘cause I might be drinkin’ whisky
Out on them backroads of my home
You don’t see no hitchhikers
ain’t no semi-trucks or bikers
Out on them backroads of my home
Them four-lane freeways ain’t got nothin’ for me
and that all night rollin’ to be where you got to be
It ain’t nowhere
Gimme them backroads of my home
Gimme them backroads of my home
I’ve been busted for speedin’
I’ve been busted up and bleedin’
Out on them backroads of my home
And you just might see me swimmin’
You might see me chase big women
Over them backroads of my home
Those four-lane freeways ain’t got nothin’ for me
Just gimme a six pack and a ‘50 Mercury
And I’ll be rollin’
Over them backroads of my home
7  LOVE WORTH THE PAIN
By Steven Elwyn Smith
She gets the kids off to school
Put things where they belong
It’s time to face another day, and try to be strong
There in the hallway, she falls down to her knees
Calls out to no one listening, someone help me please
The silence is heavy, it’s filled with doubt and shame
A simple ask, love worth the pain
This wasn’t part of the vision,
This wasn’t part of the plan
Trapped in an existence where she won’t dare take a stand
He never raised a hand to her, or so she would say
But he broke her spirit with words, almost every day
Abuse without violence is abuse just the same
She’s playing like love is worth the pain
She raises the white flag, to find some peace in surrender
She knows that it’s wrong, to forget to remember
Another compromise, and so it’s down to this
It’s daily suicide; you can’t feel what you don’t miss
She stares out the window
She feels too weak to try
Recalling all the rainy days
as she starts to cry
Half truths and alibis, don’t justify the end
She tries not to think about it as she fills her glass again
It’s no zero sum game, when love is worth the pain
It’s an old refrain, find love is worth the pain
Don’t fade away
Find love worth the pain
8  MY MONKEY WON’T BITE
By STEVEN ELWYN SMITH
It was blind dumb luck, some might call it fate
A monkey was trapped on a fire escape
I looked at him, he looked at me
I climbed up and set that monkey free
I bought my monkey a nice red suit
In his red top hat he looked so cute
Every woman I pass wants to know his name
The question they ask is always the same
Can I pet your monkey?
Can I pet your monkey?
You can pet my monkey, baby my monkey won’t bite
Last night I saw the girl next door
She wanted to play with my monkey some more
She’s loves that ape, she thinks he’s cute
She likes to squeeze my monkey and that’s the truth
Can I squeeze your monkey?
Can I squeeze your monkey?
You can squeeze my monkey, baby my monkey won’t bite
Every girl I bring home with me
Wants to set my monkey free
They say that monkey feels so nice
When’s it’s monkey business, they don’t think twice
I took my monkey out to the mall
He was actin a fool and having a ball
He jumped up and grabbed a young girl’s hair
She said that’s a bad little monkey and because I care
I’m going to spank your monkey
I’m going to spank your monkey
You can spank my monkey, baby my monkey won’t bite
You can pet my monkey…
Baby my monkey won’t . . .
9  MISSISSIPPI PORCH TIME
By Dave Painter
10  MISSISSIPPI HARD TIME
BySteven Elwyn Smith
I found hard times, down in Mississippi
I found hard times , down in Mississippi
Brown skin woman make me weep and moan
Big legged mama shake the meat off my bone
I found hard time, down in Mississippi
I know that woman
Got her a back door man
I know that woman
Got her a back door man
My 32-20 sure nuff did him some harm
Judge gave me 20 years on Parchman Farm
I found hard times, down in Mississippi
Train whistle blowin
Move me down the line
Train whistle blowin
Move me down the line
Run to the crossroads where the Southern cross the Dog
Hobo my way back to, Arkansas
I left hard times, down in Mississippi
Kind hearted woman
Ease my worryin mind
Kind hearted woman
Ease my worryin mind
I got no time to weep and wail
Cause there’s a hellhound hot on my trail
I found hard times, down in Mississippi
11  WORRIED LIFE BLUES
Multiple Authors
I don’t care how long your gone
I don’t care how long you stay
Good kind treatment
Will bring you home someday
Someday baby, you ain’t gonna worry my life anymore
Now you keep on bettin
That the dice won’t pay
Can’t you see little girl
Your movin too fast
Someday baby, you ain’t gonna worry my life anymore
Now you tell everybody
In the neighborhood
Cause you don’t love me
You wouldn’t do me no good
Someday baby, you ain’t gonna worry my life anymore
12 THE WHEEL
by Steven Elwyn Smith
You can find them in the darkness
They don’t see the light of day
You won’t hear them on the radio
With the music that they play
They serve a cold hard mistress
Her solemn oath they swore
What little love she gives them,
Keeps them coming back for more
They can’t deny the constant yearning
And the wheel keeps turning back to you
The newsman keeps reporting
But he’s missing most the game
And it makes me feel like fighting
For the bad cats he won’t name
These aren’t some pretty boy toys
Their souls were born to rock
It breaks their hearts in silence
When the torture never stops
They live to play, they play the blues
And the wheel keeps turning back to you
Solo
They don’t do it for the money
They don’t do it for the fame
It’s the love of the music
That keeps them in the game
They leave a piece of their soul
In every smoky bar
It keeps their blues alive
While they’re reaching for the stars
It’s the lessons they’re not learning
And the bridges they keep burning
That keeps the wheel turning back to you
13  CRYIN FOR MERCY
by Steven Elwyn Smith
I hear footsteps in the garden
I hear voices in the hall
Memories wash over me, here in the darkness
Till I just can’t hold them all
Was it something that I said?
Maybe something I didn’t do
Was it true love or tragedy?
That put me on the road to you
Now I’m
Cryin for mercy
Cryin for mercy, yeah yeah
Cryin for mercy and nobody hears
The shattered mirror can’t be replaced
I’ve picked up the pieces and I can’t throw them away
Here’s another fool, down on the floor
A broken heart begging for more
I don’t know where we went wrong
A fool’s heart runs in place
After all the bottles I tried to crawl inside
I still can see your face
Now I’m
Cryin for mercy
Cryin for mercy
Cryin for mercy and nobody hears
I’m Cryin for mercy
Cryin for mercy yeah yeah
I’m Cryin for mercy and nobody hears
